Harvest for Hunger

Harvest for Hunger, a River City Food Bank “friend-raiser” was held Thursday, October 6 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and on all fronts was a big success!   Several hundred guests enjoyed beverages and delicious appetizers donated by great local restaurants and learned about key River City Food Bank programs.

Eileen Thomas Executive Director of the Food Bank reviewed the “Backsnacks” program, the featured program of the evening. The Backsnacks program provides backpacks filled with healthy, snacks to children in local schools who might not otherwise have food to eat over the weekend.  Paco Martinez a counselor at Dyer Kelly spoke movingly about the importance of Backsnacks to their students.

Thanks to the generosity of our food and beverage sponsors — including Rubicon Brewing, River City Brewing, Selland’s, Il Fornaio, Olive Garden, Bogle Winery, Shasta Linen Supply and Icing on the Cupcake — most of the proceeds went directly to fund our emergency food mission. A special thanks to our Leadership sponsor, Bonney Plumbing (who also agreed to a matching Backsnacks donation!), and our Pick-of-the-Crop sponsors, Five Star Bank and Al and Norma Lammers, who contributed greatly to the event’s success. And thanks to our volunteer sponsor, XOSO (which offers adults 21+ the chance to relive their youth), and gift certificate donors Scott’s Seafood Grill and Bar, Zinfandel Grille and McCormick and Schmick’s Seafood Restaurant, who all contributed to a fun and successful evening.

We were gratified to have received over $8,000 for the Backsnacks program, and over $6,000 in other proceeds for the event. We received so many enthusiastic comments about the event as well as the work we do at the food bank.

Thank you to all the friends of River City Food Bank for attending our second annual Harvest for Hunger event, the sponsors who supported us and to our loyal volunteers for making this event happen!
