Food Drives

6 Tips for Success

1. Get the competitive juices going with interdepartmental (or location) team contests. Consider fun prizes for the winning team.

2. Focus on nutrition. Did you know there’s a peanut butter shortage? We especially need donations of items with protein. Encourage people to “spread the love” with peanut butter, “ham it up” with canned ham or “get in tun(a) with the community” with canned tuna offerings. See the list of items we always need. Remember we need baby food and baby-care items, too.

3. Make the announcement stand out. Consider making a creative evite or an event on your Facebook page to announce the kickoff of the drive. Or do a 3-D promotion: turn your empty cans from home into a promotional display.

4. Set a goal, and post progress. You might set a goal of 5 lbs. per person. Periodically tote up the donations and let your co-workers know how they’re doing.

5. Set up boxes or bins to collect food. Email us at email@rivercityfoodbank.org if you need bins.

6. Tell others how you’re doing on Facebook. We’d love to have you post on our Facebook page.

Why benefit River City Food Bank

River City Food Bank is the only food bank that operates every weekday to serve anyone in need in Sacramento County, regardless of their ZIP code. We’re in the final stages of preparing a permanent location for our operation, so important since we will serve a projected 47,000 people by year’s end. Besides many families with young children and seniors, we’re now serving many people who would otherwise have to choose between keeping a roof over their heads – or life-saving medicine — and putting healthy food on the table. Food donations are vital to our operation. Can you help?
