In Summer 2009, we launched the Growing Circle program inviting area gardeners to grow and donate extra fresh produce, and everyone to help us buy healthy fresh produce by donating “seed money.” Our inaugural goals were to raise $10,000 and 10,000 lbs of fresh produce, and we exceeded them! Over the summer, everything from cherries to berries, and tomatoes to potatoes, flowed in. When we totaled it all up, we had received $11,038.50 in cash donations and 11,033 lbs of fresh produce.
